Wow, sorry dad. Please don’t do it if it’s awful like that. I’m sure they can live without it. I love you! X x x

    • From jupiterj on jupe the whore

I’m sure they can as well. However, It seems to me the adult thing to do to simply participate. I’m not as despondent as this post probably sounds. I have done a lot of silly things and it seems like keeping my own counsel and sense of humor is the best course. We shall see, I guess.

  • From Rhonda Edgington on musings and 2 links

You didn’t ask me what I thought of it! I liked it. It’s very you, which will be perfect for tomorrow night. I thought the rhythms and harmonies are fun and catchy, without being trivial (at least I wouldn’t have called it that). It develops nicely, and I especially loved the sections with the melody on the cromhorne. I’d learn and perform it, if the composer will be giving out copies…

  • From jupiterj on musings and 2 links

I was afraid you would read this and feel like you should make nice. Hah. Thanks for the nice compliments! Of course, you may have a copy.

  • From Mark on whew

Once you have your Mental Floss piece in Finale, can you make a midi file so that I can hear it while looking at the music? Or did someone do a recording of last night’s recital? I’d enjoy hearing it. You could transfer the recording to me via Dropbox.

    Thanks…

  • From jupiterj on whew

I’ll do better than that. I am planning on making a little mp3 of it at some point. Sarah gave me a new mic to try out with my computer. Since it’s in my fingers, now would be a good time to make that recording. I’ll make sure you get a copy.

  • From Mark on bootleg jupe

The recording you put up on the site is the Finale version. I compared it with the bootleg you emailed me yesterday and am certain of it. I’m unfamiliar with the format of the file you sent me (not an MP3). But VLC player plays it just fine.

  • From David on great berry quote, updating church procedure and jupe books

Hey man, i like your blog. I’m in the process of trying to re-type an old Psalter from 1909 from a PDF file to Word. I was wondering what you might know about the best, most readable and expressive way to point the text. The translation is KJV. Thanks.

    • From jupiterj on great berry quote, updating church procedure and jupe books

I have only done it in Finale which is a pain. I patterned my pointing on the way it is done in the Hymnal 1982 with lines over the words and slashes.

Ubu! Damn – that’s a good one. Thanks for the link! Love you!

  • From Cindy Cosway on sunday morning blog

I’m getting caught up on your blog posts. re: Van Jones. I am more intrigued by folks that speak reasonably and intelligibly; finding myself blocking out those that yell & talk over others when they get a differing opinion. I truly believe the answer is somewhere much closer to the middle than the far right or far left. The useless yelling & name calling gets us nowhere. More thought provoking, genuine conversation is much needed. I for one, appreciate it. Thank you for sharing.

Enjoy your time with Sarah & her family! 🙂

    Cindy,

Good to hear from you. As always, thanks for reading my silly blog. It is a tough time these days for Americans on all sides of issues, that’s for sure. I spent a good amount of time talking with my shrink about all the upset people I know and how to be constructive (or at least do no harm). We are enjoying have the British branch of fam around.

    Much love from Uncle Steve

  • From Matthew Locke on happy thoughts from Jupe

    Hey Steve!

I know you prefer reading (!) but the 1996 movie “Basquiat” is pretty good from what I remember:

    https://www.amazon.com/Basquiat-Benicio-Del-Toro/dp/B005TTEG3O/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1512256006&sr=1-2&keywords=basquiat

Not sure if his work with Jennifer Stein makes the cut – it’s been about 20 years since I watched it. Cheerio for now!

    • From jupiterj on happy thoughts from Jupe

thanks!!! I’ll have to check it out!

Snow & more snow! We drove home on Christmas day from Davison. In a blizzard. It took about an hour & a half to get from Davison to Fenton. Finally, south of Fenton it lightened. After Ann Arbor, clear skies. Timing is everything. It was some of the worst white out conditions we’ve been in for quite some time. At least we were headed south!

    • From jupiterj on Best laid plans

Glad you made it safely through! Merry Christmas!

If you need someone to climb around up there who isn’t “old”, I’ll volunteer.
Happy to help out, and I”m back in town now. So just let me know.

Welcome back! Thank you for the offer. My parishioner, Ron Brown, worked pretty closely with Martin and Marcus and is inclined towards this sort of tinkering in a very expertise way. He has been invaluable, but I will remember your offer, ‘youngun’!

  • From Mark on you're the only one today

I like your Breath Dance piece.

I purchased a copy of the Le Guin book on a pre-publication special. I enjoy her non-fiction. On my drive home yesterday, I listened to an conversation / interview that she did with Margaret Atwood on The Archive Podcast from Oregon Public Radio. Two excellent writers and fascinating human beings in conversation. What’s not to like?

    • From jupiterj on you're the only one today

Hey thanks for listening to my piece. I also like Atwood and Le Guin as you know. I read the Le Guin as I treadmilled today. I admit that I skipped some of the chapters about her cat.

  • From Jordan on you're the only one today

    Hi Steve,

I love your piece! It is very beautiful. I wish I could be there to hear it, but I am hoping that you will provide a recording of these excellent musicians playing it. The saxophonist, Adam Briggs, is a good friend of mine. I still read this blog, by the way!

    • From jupiterj on you're the only one today

Jordan, Thank you for comments and encouragement! I’m glad that you are reading the blog as well. I’m not sure about the recording. Rhonda does record her recitals I believe. I will pass on anything that comes out of this.
