  • From Mark on clever greek and blast from the past

Thinking of Larry Wilmore and “traveling under the radar…” Leigh and I were watching him via downloaded videos (even though we could record it from our cable box) which means that our viewership wasn’t part of the equation. I wonder how much that sort of thing happens.

Sounds like you may have found a therapist that you can work with. Surprised that he’s heard of Ed Friedman. Especially almost 20 years after his death…

I don’t think he was faking. He also recognized genogram. I am feeling optimistic about this dude, that’s for sure.

Hah! I remember family meetings. I was thinking about implanting them with our California gang.

Those meetings definitely helped the grown ups. Now Eileen and I are still benefiting from sitting down together regularly. Thanks for reading!

This is a gas. When I read this comment, I put it in pending because I thought it sounded like spam. But no. Cindy really does love that product.

I think I should contact the company and tell them I need some compensation for promoting their product. It really is an easy to use application for a checkbook register. It’s just so neat and tidy and simple. I heart it. You can, of course, purchase other aspects of the program, but for a simpleton like me, the register is enough. Very user friendly. And I don’t have to worry about a bad penmanship day . I hope this post doesn’t sound too much like an advertisement. I promise, I’m not a robot!

I believe you! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!

Greetings. For some reason I was unable to see 5 images. It just says displaying (bunch of numbers).jpg. Maybe it’s just me as I am on my iPhone. Please take care of your health. =^)

I love you! Thanks for reading and thanks for sending those whatsapp pics of Alex. they brighten my Mom’s day every time. thanks for reading! I had all three of my kids respond today. What a treat!

  • From David on panic is exhausting

I was listening to the radio on the way home and a professor was attempting to speak old Greek. Made me think of you. It sounded bizarre because of the tone variation. As far as I could tell it was only an attempt to speak it as it was spoken a long time ago. I could see you attempting to speak Greek this way. The reporter likened it to an Asian language due the varied tones. It still sounded weird. =^)

    • From jupiterj on panic is exhausting

I pronounce Ancient Greek very simply only addressing accents not tones. I learned whatever I know from the CDs that came with my text. Thanks for reading!

  • From Sarah on panic is exhausting

You know I’m paranoid about bats and rabies, right?

    (more reasons to panic below)

    http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/exposure/animals/bats.html

“In all instances of potential human exposures involving bats, the bat in question should be safely collected, if possible, and submitted for rabies diagnosis. Rabies postexposure prophylaxis is recommended for all persons with bite, scratch, or mucous membrane exposure to a bat… Postexposure prophylaxis can be considered for persons who were in the same room as a bat and who might be unaware that a bite or direct contact had occurred (e.g., a sleeping person awakens to find a bat in the room or an adult witnesses a bat in the room with a previously unattended child, mentally disabled person, or intoxicated person) and rabies cannot be ruled out by testing the bat. Postexposure prophylaxis would not be warranted for other household members.”

This does seem a bit paranoid to me. But whatever bloats your float is of course fine with me. Bats eat bugs. According to http://www.batrescue.org/batfacts/batfacts.html brown bats eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in a single hour. Thanks for reading!

For some reason I get a visual of you standing around a few people in a small outdoor stadium, spouting ancient Greek philosophy in a sort of toga robe.

No clue why. Guess its better than a pink tutu. :^)

    • From jupiterj on jupes batches it for a bit

Nice images. I mostly read my Greek and poetry out loud alone in my front room. Plus I’m no longer an employee of the Hope College Dance department. But I do see why you might picture me in a stadium or a tutu. : )

Hope you find what you are searching for with this therapist. Although we are all crazy, we have different types of nuts in our buckets. Which makes us precarious squirrels to say the least. Maybe he will pin point what kind of crazy is in you or at least the types of nuts in your bucket. =^)

thanks for the support! So far I’m very comfortable with Dr. Birky. You can check him out if you’re interested. Here’s his website address: http://www.drbirkytherapy.com/home.html

I love that we all have different types of nuts in our buckets! Thank you, David. I might adopt this. We (the Cosway’s) tend to embrace our buckets, nuts and all – but each person handles their bucket of nuts in a unique way.

  • From Mark on down the rabbit hole

I’ve had that David foster Wallace interview in my Amazon shopping cart for a year or more. I keep hoping a cheaper used copy will show up. So far it has hovered at around the same price for used and new… I’m in no hurry…

I’m interested to hear about Garner. I have the third edition. It will probably be a while before a decent and inexpensive used copy shows up…

  • From jupiterj on down the rabbit hole

Interesting. How do you like the third edition of Garner? Did he use Google Ngram with it? I’m thinking he probably didn’t. Did you notice if he acknowledges the impact of tech? Did you go through the first and second edition before owning the third?

I’m surprised about the David Foster Wallace. Do you like his work? I thought you found him annoying.

    Thanks for reading!

    • From Mark on down the rabbit hole

I haven’t checked it but I’d be surprised if he used Google in it. Can’t recall when I purchased it. Perhaps while I was in Keene.

I think David Foster Wallace is a widely respected author. So I am interested in what the two of them had to say together. I keep thinking about going back and trying Infinite Jest again but so far it sits there with Ulysees. (Hey, there’s a poem in there waiting to be written. Books I keep trying to read.)

  • From David on on the phone and thinking about the word, étude

Your rendition of eye got two eyes sounds very much like your mother and father. The pitch reverberation like both. I presume it is a church or era influence. Although I could be wrong. You sounded different when you made that recording for my kids.

  • From jupiterj on on the phone and thinking about the word, étude

I’m older. I don’t sing very much any more. Neither do i play the guitar. It’s an old voice and sounds like it. I was younger and sang more when your kids were young. Thanks for reading!

    • From David on on the phone and thinking about the word, étude

I wouldn’t consider you old by today’s standards. More of what I would consider transitional age adults. Besides it wasn’t that long ago. My old as is 16 and youngest just turned 9. Hopefully you didn’t view my response as a critique, just an observation that your singing reminded me of my grandparents. A professional choir director that doesn’t sing much? Had to think about that one for a minute. Say hi and big hugs to the China family when you see them for us out here. David J

  • From jupiterj on on the phone and thinking about the word, étude

Sorry if I was a bit defensive. I should have said I don’t sing in public much any more. I have sung in public for a lot of my lifetime in different contexts, most of it not classical singing. Just this weekend I sang for my choir which is more of classical or trained singing (In rehearsal). That’s part of the technique of directing. I understand that 65 years old is “transitional age adult.” However, the concept of “aging voice” is a specific one I deal with (in my choristers). Just as in dance or sports, as the body ages what it can do with its art and with its singing instrument changes. This is a reality I deal with in my area. FWIW.

The Beijing contingent arrives in Holland on Saturday. I will definitely pass on hugs and greetings.
