  • From Barb on a day well spent

I love Camille Paglia. I have followed her for years. I love how she thinks!!!

    • From jupiterj on a day well spent

Cool! Have you read her on essays (Vamps and Tramps) and/or poetry commentary (Break, Blow, Burn: Camille Paglia Reads Forty-three of the World’s Best Poems)? These are two I am familiar with. I think I have also read in her book on sexuality, Sexual Personae, but I can’t lay my hands on it so maybe not.

      • From Barb on a day well spent

I have her “Free Women Free Men” book which is a collection of essays. I have the audio version of her book “Sexual Personae”. It’s hard to listen to it in the car while driving. I need to get back to it. I have watched several YouTube videos of her either in a lecture setting or in interviews. I had my first taste of her when she wrote an op-ed on date rape. Her view of women not taking responsibility for their own sexual encounters and infantilizing themselves was a huge moment for me. Anyway… nice to know someone else in my orbit actually likes her.

  • From Sarah on waiting for another phone call

I particularly like the fact that the link to the article about hacking the American mind and consumerism is riddled with garish ads for useless products and services.

  • From jupiterj on waiting for another phone call

Hey, what can I say? Do you mean the link to The People’s Pharmacy?

    • From Sarah on waiting for another phone call

      Yes 🙂

adInteresting. Algorithms provide much of the ad choices of a page. My page is not too cluttered and the ad is for Kohl’s.

  • From David on day after surgery and wretched strangers

    Yes! Happy dance!!!!!!

  • From rhonda on book talk

Bewilderment- that’s brilliant, and does seem very true. As opposed to assuming we can see where this is going, add and the resulting hysteria all around us, bewilderment sound pretty refreshing!

  • From Eliz on nice to be asked and Tchaikovsky, Handel, Clara Schumann

wasn’t it a bit more literal for the Pullmans who were using tokens issued by their employer to buy things from stores owned by their employer, etc?

    • From jupiterj on nice to be asked and Tchaikovsky, Handel, Clara Schumann

      Insane stuff, that’s for sure.

  • From Cindy Cosway on going for a day off

For what it’s worth, I think Jody might be off of FB. I’ve no idea if it’s from his own choosing or due to being censored. I haven’t asked.

    • From jupiterj on going for a day off

Wow. It never occurred to me that he might have been kicked off. I was skeptical that he would withdraw wince he seems to adamant in his comments. Thanks for the info. I will miss his comments since he is someone whose point of view is so different form mine and it helps me temper my own confirmation bias.

      Love from Uncle Steve

  • From David J on too many words about a couple of hymns

I have been off and on interacted with Hillsdale for their “free” courses on things I am interested in like litterateur, History and of coarse public policy/politics/constitution/government (actually learning new things and brushing up on something’s from when I was working on the doctorate). Surprisingly they seem to be pretty objective given the conservative rightness of the college. Also, free is good for the most part as long as I can shift through the bullshit. 😬

Free is good. Love from Dad

  • From Jordan on in between

Hey, I’m a local composer and I’d love to see your music!

    • From jupiterj on in between

True that. Although you and I have done quite a bit of collaboration we haven’t talked that much about our compositional goals and process. Of course, we have improvised together a lot too and that’s related I think. But I will definitely take you up on showing you work when i get something more together on this organ piece I’m working on. Thanks! And thanks for reading the blog!

      • From Jordan on in between

Very good! Looking forward to it! I can’t wait to see it!

  • From Rhonda Edgington on composing and picking some organ music

One other idea is to email Robin Dinda himself. I’m sure you can find his contact info (he’s probably about your age, somehow I think my parents knew him slightly…)
and it could be he’d be happy to get you copies of those pages, and perhaps more responsive than a publisher. Just an idea…

    • From jupiterj on composing and picking some organ music

Good idea! I did this. We’ll see if he responds. Thank you!

  • From Rhonda Edgington on compositional therapy and anxiety

Ohmigosh, I’m sorry, but that dream is hilarious. I have concert-anxiety dreams too, but this one has some great details. Like your car and phone being in pieces and unusable.
And especially the legal action part!
I’m sure it was unpleasant at the time, but perhaps you can take comfort in the fact that I read it to Mark and we both enjoyed a chuckle?

    • From jupiterj on compositional therapy and anxiety

Always glad to bring a smile to people (Hence the hats and silly outfits). Thanks for reading!

  • From Rhonda Edgington on Lobe den Herren dances for organ

Life and Breath is very cool! I like it a lot.

    • From jupiterj on Lobe den Herren dances for organ

Many thanks! You flatter an old man! I’m interested in any feedback you have. I emailed you about this. Hope your Holy Week is going well!
